Seeds 3, 6, 9 Bow in Toronto; Big Timber to Cut Down Next

Murray, Joker Win 1st Mathes

August 08, 2012 | 08:22 PM

While Joker and Andy moved won their first matches today without post-Olympic distress, Tsonga, Del Potro and Simon showed the effects of Olympic fatigue (though Simon didn't go deep in any draw as the others did):

- Jeremy Chardy def. #3 Tsonga 6-4, 7-6 (4)

- Radek Stepanek def. #6 Del Potro 6-4, 7-6 (5)

- Tommy Haas def. #9 Simon 6-2, 6-3

- Joker def. Tomic 6-2, 6-2

- Murray def. Cipolla 6-1, 6-3

Additionally, #4 Berdych had a close call with Benneteau, winning 6-7 (10), 6-4, 6-4.

Tomorrow the 5 Big Men (all 6'6" or taller) go against the top seeds in the round of 16:

11am Cilic v #5 Tipsarevic

1pm Monaco v #11 Fish

3pm Querrey v Joker

Berdych v Stepanek

7pm Raonic v Murray

Isner (#8) v Kohlschreiber (#12)

One way or the other, some big timber will fall before the quarters.
