Raonic gets close to Upsetting Fed; Isner upset

PKey Thursday matches

May 09, 2012 | 09:18 PM

After almost 6 weeks off, Roger came back to shock therapy from the hardest server in the game, Milos Raonic, who fired his usual 21 aces without regard for the surface or its color. Milos took the 1st set 6-4 courtesy of a sloppy game from Fed, but wouldn't break him again, losing 5-7, 6-7 (4). Roger felt good about the way he was playing, and the win. Milos felt he controlled the match, and he almost did. Maybe next time... it wouldn't be any easier to return his serve on grass.

No one has held serve better than Milos this year, who's won 93% of his service games, but Rog is a close 2nd with 92% (both have played 26 matches this year).

In the return department, Milos has a long way to go to catch Rog: 19% of return games won is low (Fed is at 27%). Rog has earned 2865 points in the Race to London (placing him 3rd), while Milos has but 1210 (8th place, just ahead of Isner, with 1145).

Isner, who ranks 3rd in serve games held at 89% along with Del Potro, wins only 12% of return games. In the only upset among the men today, John wasn't broken, but lost to Cilic 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3).

Joker, who leads in the return category at 37%, just above Rafa at 35%, and is in 9th place in service games won at 86% (2% behind Rafa).

In WOMEN'S action today, the only major upset was Kvitova losing 6-4, 6-3 to #105 ranked Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic.
