Joker survives Blue scare; Rafa, Roger up next

May 08, 2012 | 07:50 PM

On a day when all men's seeds made it into the 2nd round except for #13 Lopez, a 3 set loser to Melzer, Joker needed an extra set to finish off Spaniard Gimeno-Trevor 6-3 in the 3rd. The other seeds who needed 3 sets were French:

- #9 Simon def. Fognini 6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-3

- #12 Monfils def. Kohlschrieber 7-5, 6-7 (2), 6-3

- #14 Gasquet def. Bellucci 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5)

Milos Raonic set up a 2nd round match with FEDERER by beating Nalbandian without losing a point on his first serve, winning 6-4, 6-4 with the loss of only 6 points on serve in 10 games. While fed says he is feeling rested and good, he will have little time or leeway to get started against Milos.

John ISNER, the other big man trying to prove himself on clay, will face Marin Cilic, who is fresh off making a final in Munich (he lost to Seppi).

Ryan Harrison will face #4 seed Tsonga.

In WOMEN'S action:

- Vika will face #13 seed Ana Ivanovic

- #12 Kerber faces #8 Na Li

Serena won her 2nd round as easily as her first, and plays #6 seed Wozniacki in the 3rd round.
