Isner and Russell One Step Closer in Houston

April 13, 2012 | 10:10 PM

Houston could be Michael Russell's biggest pay day if he can win his semis against Juan Monaco tomorrow (a big if). Today he got the best of Ryan Harrison in 3 sets, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3, a much better win than his 6-3, 6-1 over Fish, given how the two opponents were playing. Monaco beat Kevin Anderson 7-6 (4), 7-5.

In the bottom half, Isner retired defending title holder Ryan Sweeting in two breakers, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (4). His semi-final match-up against Feliciano Lopez is an interesting one, as the Argentine is capable of forcing John with his big lefty serve and plays an all court game, like John.
