Mens' Seeds v Odds at Open

Yanks Number Three (Roddick #21)

August 24, 2011 | 07:28 PM

Roddick is seeded lower than he's ever been seeded in a major. If he was Spanish or French, he'd hold a national ranking of #5. In Serbia, he'd be #4, #3 in Switzerland, but he's still #2 in the USA, and seeded higher than any American woman.

His odds? Better: he's 10th at 1/160 (back), though a huge distance between him and #9 Berdych (1/80). Joker, like Serena, is prohibitive favorite at 1/2.5. Nadal, Murray and Federer are about even in the 1/6 to 1/7 area, with Del Potro back at 1/24.

FISH is #7 in the odds, 8 in the seeds.

DRAWS will be live tomorrow (Thursday) at noon on ESPN2. Irene will be swinging through Flushing sometime Sunday pm, so the best odds are that she'll get the only swings on Monday. Where's the roof? It wouldn't help much on day one!
