Professional tennis in Memphis is here to stay in 2013 and beyond!

June 25, 2012
There have been reports in the public domain that we want to address so you know we are committed to keeping professional tennis in Memphis. Recently, there became an opportunity for the ATP and WTA to make some moves among several global venues, including Memphis. The result is that ATP professional tennis will continue to be played in Memphis in 2013 and beyond. The WTA professional tournament will be played in Memphis in 2013 then will relocate to South America beginning in 2014.

ATP Tour President, Mark Young, had this to say about Memphis and professional tennis: "For the past 38 years Memphis has been an important tournament on the ATP World Tour. In fact, nine players who have ranked number one in the history of the South African Airways ATP Rankings have included the Memphis title on their resume. We are pleased that Memphis will continue to be part of the exciting story of men's professional tennis in the U.S. and look forward to many more years of ATP World Tour tennis at the Racquet Club of Memphis."

One of the nine players who ranked number one in the world who won also won at Memphis includes American, Andy Roddick. Roddick began playing in Memphis when he was just eighteen-years-old. The now twenty-nine-year-old star has played in Memphis eleven times since 2001 and considers the stop in Memphis one of his favorites on today's professional circuit.

"After winning Memphis for the first time over ten years ago, I always look forward to playing and visiting Memphis," says Andy Roddick, three-time tournament champion. "I look forward to seeing all the tennis fans again in 2013."

As part of our commitment to the future of professional tennis in Memphis, we are continuing to find ways of improving the experience of tournament goers. For instance, in 2012, the tournament added Hawk-Eye, which is tennis's instant replay tool. This technological advancement was a huge hit among fans and players alike and will also be a part of the tournaments going forward.

Looking ahead to the future, the tournament staff hopes to incorporate more events into the Tennis Week in Memphis, including fun and exciting exhibition matches, special VIP packages, live music, and more. The tournament will become the place to be each February.

On behalf of our tournament sponsors, our excellent tournament staff and The Racquet Club of Memphis, we would like to personally thank you for all of your dedication over many years. We look forward to your continued support of world-class professional tennis in Memphis and we will keep you updated as we have additional information.

As always, we like to hear from you. For feedback on the 2012 tournament or suggestions for improving the 2013 event, please contact the tournament office at 901-765-4401.

In the meantime, mark your calendars now for February 15-24, 2013!

Sincerely,

Michael T. Lehr
