Nadal Out of US Open

August 15, 2012
"Rafa has informed us that he will not be ready to compete at the US Open this year and has withdrawn from the tournament," U.S. Open tournament director David Brewer said in a statement. "We hope to see him back on the court soon and look forward to his return to New York next year."

Nadal has been off the tennis circuit since Wimbledon, withdrawing from the Toronto and Cincinnati Tournaments and now the US Open. Citing tendinitis, Nadal was unable to play in the London Olympics to defend the Gold Medal he won four years ago in Beijing.

From his Twiter page (@RafaelNadal) Nadal wrote: "I am very sad to announce that I am not ready to play the US Open in NY. Thanks to my fans for their support and specially, the new yorkers."

Tennis professionals have long asked how long can his body stand his brutal style of play. How can his body stand the pounding? And once again it is his knees that are letting him down.
