American teams earn top-seeds in Olympic men's and women's doubles

July 25, 2012
Two-time gold medal winners Venus Williams and Serena Williams unseeded

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) today announced the seeds for the London 2012 Olympic Tennis Event (see full ITF release below), being staged at the All England Club, Wimbledon from 28 July until 5 August. Seeds are based on the ATP and WTA world rankings of Monday, July 23.

Americans earned the top seeds in both men's and women's doubles. 2008 bronze medal winners Bob and Mike Bryan will be the No. 1 seeds for the third straight Olympics while Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond, the world's top-ranked women's doubles team, top the women's seeds.

The criteria used also means that two-time gold medal winners and reigning Wimbledon champions Venus and Serena Williams will be unseeded in women's doubles. The sisters are undefeated together in Olympic doubles, having won the 2008 gold medal in Beijing as the No. 2 seeds and as an unseeded team in Sydney in 2000.

Federer and Azarenka named top seeds for Olympic Tennis Event
